 Sudan Tribune report that Sudan’s public prosecution charged Rapid Support Forces (RSF) members with murder under torture of activist Baha El-Din Nouri in Khartoum while the militia said the perpetrators of the crime will be handed over to justice.

 Activists called for large mobilisation at his funeral, with the Sudan Professionals Association calling for the RSF to stop such practices and render all its detention facilities to the government.

The UN-African Union Joint Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) called for the Sudanese government to take action to prevent further looting and vandalism, and conduct “appropriate” investigations, after UNAMID’s South Sector headquarters were allegedly looted by residents and “individuals in uniform.”

UNAMID handed over the Nyala camp to the government on 19 November 2019. UNAMID said it “particularly deplores” the participation of uniformed personnel in the looting of assets worth approximately $100 million.

Sudan Tribune reports that Finance Minister Ibrahim Elbadawi denied reports that he gave a monopoly over Sudanese gold exports to Al-Fakher company.

Elbadawi said that the door is open to all companies without exception, in order to stimulate the private sector to provide foreign currency and buy strategic commodities.

Badawi said that the Ministry of Finance is studying offers submitted by over forty companies and business groups to export gold abroad, as the government has left gold purchasing and exports to private firm.

29/12/2019: Reuters – Sudan passes 2020 budget with anticipated deficit of $1.62 billion

Reuters reports that Sudan has passed its 2020 budget that includes an overall deficit of about 73 billion Sudanese pounds ($1.62 billion), Finance Minister Ibrahim Elbadawi said.

The budget has expected revenues of 568.3 billion Sudanese pounds ($12.63 billion) and also includes increased spending for healthcare and education.

“This is a budget of peace, it bodes for peace,” Elbadawi said.
