SUDAN NEWS ALERT: Sudan Tribune - Sudan’s FFC deny siding with RSF commander against army leaders

6/3/2023: Sudan Tribune - Sudan’s FFC deny siding with RSF commander against army leaders

Sudan Tribune report that the Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC) denied siding with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) over the Sudanese army in the recent rift between them about the implementation of the framework agreement.

Sudan Tribune note recent rumours of an undeclared alliance between RSF commander Himedti and FFC leaders to press Abdulfattah al-Burhan, the commander-in-chief of the Sudanese army, to hand over power in line with the agreement.

In response, Khalid Omar Yousif, the official spokesman for the civilian forces in the political process said: “this is a lie propagated by the forces associated with the former regime because they seek to incite the army to clash with the RSF in order to return to power again”.

Himedti openly disagreed with the army leadership over their demand to include more political forces in the framework agreement and before labelling the 2021 coup a mistake.

SUDAN NEWS ALERT: Sudan Tribune - Sudan’s Attorney General recommends new culture for security forces

6/3/2020: Sudan Tribune - Sudan’s Attorney General recommends new culture for security forces

Sudan’s Attoney General, Taj Elsir Alhibr, has called for Sudanese security forces to adopt a “new culture” to prevent the “brutal” crackdown against peaceful protesters.

Alhibr chairs a committee investigating the crackdown in February on demonstrations against the dismissal of pro-democracy military officers.

The final recommendations of his report call for the police to depart from the conventional methods of dealing with peaceful demonstrations under al-Bashir’s regime, adding that peaceful demonstrations “are now a legitimate right.”

Alhbir also said: “we expect this report to be meticulously studied by all relevant authorities, to clearly confirm the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and expression, and to enforce these recommendations so that what happened will not occur again.”
