Sudan Tribune reports that the Sudanese government and rebel groups have agreed to establish a special criminal court for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur.

Ahmed Tugud, of the Justice and Equality Movement Negotiator and Sudan Revolutionary Front rebel coalition negotiating team, said that discussions in Juba with the government focused on the grave violations committed by the al-Bashir’s regime and the impunity of the warlords.

Head of the government negotiating team for conflict resolution in Darfur, Mohamed Hassan al-Taishi, said that the agreements reached with rebels constituted "an unexpected breakthrough" in terms of transitional justice and reconciliation.

The parties were determined to “lay a solid foundation for justice and political stability in the country," al-Taishi stressed.

Radio Dabanga reports that widespread protests were sparked after the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) shot and killed a Kassala state resident they suspected to be a smuggler

SAF Brigadier Salim Harrash , explained that a unit was patrolling the border with Eritrea, when it met the deceased. Harrash claimed that the commander of the patrol unit did not order the shooting, and that the patrol unit was placed under arrest.

Demonstrators blocked the main roads and the highway in Kassala in a protest against the killing.
