 Radio Dabanga report that Public Prosecutor Moulana El Habr said there was new information on the case of young activist Bahaeldin Nouri, who was abducted, tortured, and killed by Rapid Support Forces (RSF) officers.

 The RSF admitted that the death of the activist occurred after he was detained by the militia’s intelligence department and announced that it had detained those who participated in the murder.

 El Habr confirmed that the RSF have lifted the immunity of the officers who killed Nouri and that they will be subjected to investigation and interrogation.

31/12/2019: Sudan Tribune - Sudan seizes schools affiliated to Islamic groups

Sudan Tribune reports that the Sudanese Humanitarian Aid Commission has taken control of schools owned by the Islamic Call Organisation, a group of the former ruling National Congress Party (NCP).

The seizure of the buildings is in line with recent laws to confiscate NCP assets.

Ali Al-Obaid, an official at the Sudanese Ministry of Education, said that 25 million Sudanese pounds of profits from the schools went to the Islamic Call Organisation.

He added that he hopes the schools will be integrated into the Ministry of Education, so that their profits align with the interests of the government.

Radio Dabanga reports that the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF) rebel alliance have suspended peace talks concerning Darfur have been, after Arab Maaliya herdsmen attacked the Masalit tribe in El Geneina, West Darfur.

The  SRF said they hold the government in Khartoum responsible, and demand that it “fulfils its full duty to protect unarmed civilians and provide security”.

The armed movements will not resume the peace talks unless the authorities properly investigate the crimes committed, and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Radio Dabanga reports that Faisal Mohammed Salih, Minister of Culture and Information,  has issued a decision to stop El Andalus Media Production and Distribution Company, that owns several satellite channels, from broadcasting.

Salih explained that the decision was based on the exclusive right of the Sudanese General Authority for Radio and TV Broadcasting and its responsibility to control or supervise the operation of radio and television broadcasting platforms.

The El Andalus Media Production and Distribution Ltd owns the Teiba satellite channels, whose board of directors is chaired by Salafist preacher Abdelhay Yousef. El Andalus permits broadcasting for more than ten channels not authorised by the Sudanese authorities.

At the time of writing Teiba channel is still available for viewing, broadcasting lectures by Abdelhay Yousef.

31/12/2019: Radio Dabanga - 70+ dead or injured in bloody West Darfur tribal violence

Radio Dabanga reports that clashes between Maaliya herders and Masalit tribesmen in El Geneina, West Darfur, have killed or injured more than 70 dead, with Masalit tribesmen accusing the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of complicity.  

Masalit tribesmen said the “Janjaweed” who attacked Kerending camp for the internally displaced were riding vehicles belonging to the RSF, who also fired  indiscriminately at people in other districts in el-Geneina, under the watch of the army and the police.

Masalit tribal leaders accused Mousa Ambelo, the deputy commander of the RSF militia in West Darfur, of genocide and ethnic cleansing, and called for the dismissal of the West Darfur governor and security committee, the expulsion of the RSF and district-wide disarmament. 

The RSF also allegedly attacked wounded people at El Geneina Teaching Hospital.
