16/1/2021: Sudan Tribune - Sudanese troops have been deployed on the border in agreement with Ethiopia’s PM: al-Burhan

 Sudan Tribune reports that the head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Lt. Gen. Abdelfattah al-Burhan, said he agreed with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to deploy Sudanese troops to “prevent border infiltration to and from Sudan by an armed party.” 

Al-Burhan said the army has no intention to wage war against Ethiopia and that the army is deployed within the Sudanese borders.

He also added that when he was previous based on the border, “Ethiopians argued that they had internal problems and that the situation did not allow marking the borders," adding that the regime of Omar al-Bashir “assessed the situation and gave us instructions to withdraw".

Sudan Tribune add that al-Bashir “is accused of facilitating the occupation of Sudanese borderland for over 20 years.”

Sudan Tribune reports that the heads of the negotiating teams of the government and Darfur armed groups dismissed statements by Minni Minnawi, a factional leader of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM), that the peace negotiations suffered a setback.

Minnawi tweeted that "the government delegation reversed its position on all the items that were agreed upon in the last period (...) they unashamedly said we have backpedaled on what we had agreed…Unfortunately, history repeats itself shamelessly"

Minnawi also slammed El-Hadi Idris, the leader of the Sudan Revolutionary Front, after the latter held a joint press conference with the government negotiation team. Minnawi tweeted “I do not know how and why [Idris] responds to my Tweets at a time when the government owns all private and public media…anew beginning of divide and rule policy".
