 Sudan Tribune report that three Beja ethnic groups have disavowed protests organised by the Supreme Council of the Beja Tribes against a peace deal on eastern Sudan.

 The chiefdoms of the Ababda, Amarar, and Bisharin issued a joint statement to distance themselves from violent protests against the peace agreement orchestrated by the Supreme Council of Beja Tribes, headed by the Hadendawa tribal leader, Sayid  Turk.

 The three tribes allege that Turk, who was close to the former regime, is implementing a counter-revolutionary plan aiming to destabilise eastern Sudan. They also criticised the Supreme Council of Beja Tribes saying it was not formed in the name of Beja chiefdoms, and that they do not accept being represented “by an illusory body that does not exist on the ground."

5/10/2020: Multiple sources - Sudan, SPLM-N al-Hilu to resume peace talks in October

 The Sudanese government and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North faction of Abdelaziz al-Hilu (SPLM-N al-Hilu) will resume negotiations during the third week of October.

 The Forces of Freedom and Change coalition FFC will also hold a meeting with the SPLM-N al-Hilu within a week to discuss the place of the religion in a democratic Sudan.

 In a related development, during a meeting with the US envoy to Sudan in Khartoum Donald Booth, Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok renewed his government’s determination to reach a peace agreement with the SPLM-N al-Hilu and the Sudan Liberation Movement of Abdelwahid al-Nur.

5/10/19: Sudan Tribune – Sudanese Islamists deny resorting to violence as they plan for protests

 Sudan Tribune reports on senior Islamists denying accusations that they are preparing sabotage operations in Sudan.

 Excluded from the pending formation of the transitional parliament, Sudanese Islamists have scheduled demonstrations outside the army headquarters for October 21,  demanding that the military remove Hamdok and the Forces of Freedom and Change.

 However, Ammar Alsjad, a leading member of the Sudanese Islamist Popular Congress Party (PCP) told Sudan Tribune that the Islamists will cooperate with the FFC and “work to correct the course of the revolution.”

 Osama Tawfiq of the Islamist Reform Now Movement said that the Islamists will exercise “rational opposition, without resorting to violence.”

 However, Tawfiq accused the FFC of falsifying the constitutional declaration and delaying the formation of an investigation committee on the June 3 massacre. He predicted that the transitional government will not last longer than six months if lifts subsidies on fuel, flour, and other basic commodities.

 AP report that irrigation ministers from Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia wrapped up a two-day meeting in Khartoum without resolving differences over Ethiopia’s soon-to-be-finished Blue Nile dam.

 Egypt called for international mediation to help reach a “fair and balanced” agreement. Ethiopia responded that these demands “go against the consent of Ethiopia and Sudan.”

 85% of Nile waters originate in Ethiopia. Egypt fears that the proposed Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam could reduce its share of the Nile River, which is a lifeline for its 100 million people.

 Sudan Irrigation Minister Yasser Abbas said that progress was made but differences on filling the giant reservoir and operating rules of the remain unsettled. He said Ethiopia proposed a plan to fill the reservoir over four to seven years, without elaborating.
