7/7/2020: Radio Dabanga - Govt delegation, Central Darfur protestors reach agreement

Radio Dabanga report that the government delegation visiting Niertiti has reached an agreement with protest leaders, although the latter said the sit-in will continue until their demands are fulfilled.

Protest leader Yasir Suleiman said the government will replace the acting military state governors by civilian governors within two weeks, and that the local director and police chief, and commanders of the General Intelligence Service (GIS) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the area will be dismissed.

Instead, a joint army, RSF and police force will be formed, to evacuate settlers from the agricultural lands in south-western Jebel Marra, disarm gunmen, collect motorcycles, secure the agricultural season and arrest those who have complaints filed against them.

Suleiman also said the government agreed to arrange traditional mining, improve telecommunication, water and electricity services, and that the RSF donated a generator to Niertiti.
