SUDAN NEWS ALERT: Radio Dabanga - Arrest warrant for Sudanese Islamic hardliner

26/12/2019: Radio Dabanga - Arrest warrant for Sudanese Islamic hardliner

Radio Dabanga reports that the Public Prosecutor in Khartoum has issued an arrest warrant for famous Sudanese Islamist preacher, Abdelhay Yousef, based on a complaint against him filed by Sudan’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Walaa El Boushi.

The arrest could not be implemented because Yousef is outside Sudan. Yousef accused El Boushi of infidelity after the launch of Sudan’s first women’s football league.

El Boushi called on the Sudanese public to disavow the language of incitement and extremism, and for God’s platforms to be used to spread peace and love rather than discord and hatred.

A second arrest warrant has been issued against Yousef, concerning “the ownership of illegal wealth”, as he allegedly received an amount of $5 million from the ousted president Omar Al Bashir for the support of the Taiba TV channel.
