SUDAN NEWS ALERT: Multiple sources: FFC-CC Framework Agreement signatories reject Egyptian dialogue proposal

18/1/2023: Multiple sources: FFC-CC Framework Agreement signatories reject Egyptian dialogue proposal

The Forces for Freedom and Change-Central Council (FFC-CC) officially rejected an Egyptian dialogue initiative, describing it as a platform for the “counter-revolutionary forces.”

The framework agreement was not signed by the pro-coup FFC Democratic Bloc (FFC-DB) faction, which includes a pro-Egypt faction of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP).

Sudan Tribune quoted Egyptian researcher Amani al-Taweel to say that Egypt’s move aims to ensure the participation of a DUP faction led by Jaafar al-Mirghani. Although his brother al-Hassan leads another faction participating in the process initiated by the framework agreement, Sudan Tribune highlight “rumours in Khartoum” that Egypt only trusts Jaafar - who served as a presidential assistant to the ousted Omar al-Bashir.

The FFC-CC maintains that the only FFC-DB groups allowed to sign are the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and the Sudan Liberation Movement of Minni Minnawi (SLM-MM) as they signed the Juba peace agreement.
