24/1/2020: Sudan Tribune - Sudan postpones extension of state of emergency

Sudan Tribune reports that the Sudanese Sovereign Council has postponed the extension of the state of emergency in the country for further consultations.

Mohamed al-Faki, a Sovereign Council member and spokesman, added that the Council’s Chairman Abdel Fatah al-Burhan is to discuss the matter with the Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, who requested an extension to state of emergency following the increased tribal clashes and to allow his government to dismantle the structures and assets of the former Islamist regime.

On October 10 2019 , the Sovereign Council extended the state of emergency in all Sudan for three months. Islamist groups expressed its opposition to the decision.
