SUDAN NEWS ALERT: Sudan Tribune - Sudan’s FFC under pressure to form new ‘broad-based’ cabinet

12/10/2021: Sudan Tribune - Sudan’s FFC under pressure to form new ‘broad-based’ cabinet

Sudan Tribune report that pressure is mounting on the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) to dissolve the cabinet after calls by the head of the Sovereign Council Abdulfattah al-Burhan and the National Accord splinter of the FFC to form a new "broad-based" transitional government.

The transitional government headed by Abdalla Hamdok faces three challenges: strife with a tribal group in eastern Sudan that blocks seaports and roads, conflict with the military component that “paralyses” transitional institutions and an FFC faction that wants more shares in the government.

In response to the calls, Mutaz Saleh, a member of the ruling FFC Central Council, told the Sudan Tribune that only the FFC, not al-Burhan, has the authority to dissolve the cabinet. He further questioned how al-Burhan claims the government has no solution for the eastern Sudan crisis while it “emanated from the peace agreement the military negotiated with the armed groups”.
